ARTICLE I

Name

Sec. 1 – This Commandery shall be known as Kansas City Commandery No. 10 of Knights Templar and shall be located at the Ivanhoe Masonic Temple.

Stated Conclaves

Sec. 2 – The stated conclaves of this Commandery shall be held on the third Monday of each month alternately with or following a meeting of Kansas City Chapter No. 28 and Kansas City Council No. 45.  The first meeting of the evening shall start at 7:30 p.m.  No meeting of this Commandery will be held on the evening of, or the evening preceding the opening of any annual session of the Grand York Rite of Missouri.  Any stated conclave in July or August may be omitted or rescheduled.  

Special Conclaves

Sec. 3 – Special conclaves may be called by the Commander or set by action of the Commandery as provided in Grand Commandery Laws and Regulations.

Officers and Elections

Sec. 4 – The elective officers of this Commandery shall be – Commander, Generalissimo, Captain General, Treasurer and Recorder.  A majority of the votes cast shall elect, and such elected officers shall hold their respective offices until their successors are installed.  The appointive officers of this Commandery shall be:  Prelate, Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Standard Bearer, Sword Bearer, Warder, Sentinel and three Guards.

Sec. 5 – The election of officers shall take place at the stated conclave in May of each year and the officers shall be installed in June.

ARTICLE II

Duties of Officers

Sec. 1 – The several officers of this Commandery shall perform the duties of their respective stations as indicated in the Ritual and installation ceremony of the Order as handed down by tradition and usage and as prescribed by the Laws and Regulations of the Grand Commandery and the Grand Encampment.  

Sec. 2 – The Recorder shall keep a faithful record of the business of the Commandery in the form of minutes of meeting and a file of the correspondence in the archives of the Commandery.

Sec. 3 – The Treasurer and Recorder shall give an official bond, with some reliable company as security thereon, in the sum of five thousand dollars, to be approved by Kansas City Commandery No. 10 conditioned on the faithful discharge of their duties.  The cost of such bond shall be paid by Kansas City Commandery No. 10 or by the Ivanhoe Masonic Temple Company. 

Sec. 4 – The checking account for the Commandery shall have the signatures of the Recorder and Treasurer on the account, however, a check shall require only one signature for payment. 

ARTICLE III

Committees

Sec. 1 – The Commander shall, as soon after his election and installation as practical, appoint a Finance Committee consisting of three (3) members of this Commandery, whose duty it shall be to audit the books of the Treasurer and Recorder and report at the stated conclave in January.  This committee shall not consist of the incoming or outgoing Recorders or Treasurers.  This committee shall also prepare a budget to be submitted to this Commandery for approval at the stated conclave in January.

Sec. 2 – The Commander shall appoint any other committee, as he shall deem necessary.

Sec. 3 – The Commander, Generalissimo and Captain General shall constitute a committee to insure proper plans are made for all activities of the Commandery.

Sec. 4 – The Captain General shall be the chairman of the widows committee.  Said committee shall contact all widows of this Commandery, ascertain if they are in need and see that they are invited to all social functions of the Commandery.

ARTICLE IV

Fees, Dues and Expenses

Sec. 1 – The fees for the Orders of the Commandery shall be fifty dollars ($50.00) which must, in all cases, accompany the petition.

Sec. 2 – The annual dues of the Commandery shall be twenty-one dollars ($21.00) which sum includes $1.00 for the K.T. Eye Foundation plus all assessments and per capita taxes levied by the Grand Commandery or the Grand Encampment.  The dues are payable in advance on the first day of January. 

Sec. 3 – The Commandery may remit the dues of a member for good cause.  

Sec. 4 – Forty- and Fifty-Year members shall pay per capita as required by the Grand Commandery.

Sec. 5 – The expense of the representatives attending the Annual Conclave of the Grand Commandery shall be paid as provided for in the budget adopted by the Commandery.

ARTICLE V

Members

Sec. 1 – It shall be the duty of each member to notify the Recorder, in writing, of any change in his address.

Sec. 2 – Each member and visiting Sir Knight shall be required to register at each conclave of this Commandery, which he attends, in the official register which will be kept in the anteroom of the Commandery and such official register will be a part of the records of this Commandery.

Sec. 3 – Application for the orders for membership may be received and acted upon at the same assembly. 

Sec 4 – This Commandery may elect to Honorary Membership any visiting Knight Templar who is in good standing.  This does not confer the right to participate in the deliberation of the Commandery, but is simply complimentary.

ARTICLE VI

Miscellaneous

Sec. 1 – It shall be the duty of the Commander, Generalissimo, Captain General and Recorder to attend, in person, the annual conclave of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of Missouri.  Proxies may be issued as provided for by the Grand Commandery. 

Sec. 2 – Every Past Commander of this Commandery who has completed his term of office as Commander of this Commandery shall receive a suitable token.

Sec. 3 – Any amendments to these by-laws must be presented in writing, read at a stated conclave and shall lie over until the next stated conclave, following due notice to resident members, when if adopted by a two-thirds vote of the members present, shall be forwarded to the Grand Commandery for approval, after which it shall become part of these by-laws. 

Sec. 4 – This Commandery shall adopt such standing rules, as they deem necessary for the efficient operation of this Commandery.

  • The Recorder shall obtain and issue to:
    • The Commander, Generalissimo and Captain General a copy of Laws and Regulations of the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of the State of Missouri and the Manual of Knights Templar Tactics and Ceremonies of the Grand Encampment.
      • All elected and appointed officers a copy of the Grand Encampment Ritual and the Tactics and Manual of Asylum Ceremonies of the Grand Commandery.
        • All elected and appointed officers a copy of the Commandery By-Laws and Standing Rules of the Commandery and make the same available to all members.
          • All members a copy of the pamphlets issued by the Grand Encampment that the Commander may request.
  • Trustees:  A Board of Trustees consisting of three (3) members shall be elected, one of whom shall be elected at each annual election to serve for three (3) years or until a successor is elected.  The Board of Trustees shall have charge of the property and securities of the Commandery, shall pass upon all claims and demands against the Commandery and shall constitute a “Uniform and Supply” committee.
  • Ivanhoe Temple Company representatives:  Kansas City Commandery No. 10 shall elect three (3) representatives to the Ivanhoe Masonic Temple Company to serve for a term of three (3) years, one of whom shall be elected at each annual election.  The election shall be at the stated conclave for the annual election.  They shall attend the meetings of the Ivanhoe Masonic Temple Company and by their voice and vote represent the best interest of Kansas City Commandery No. 10.
  • The Commander shall appoint the following committees:
    • Membership Committee
      • Drill Instructor
        • Finance (see by-laws)
          • Visitation Committee
          • Refreshments and Dinner Committee.  The Captain General shall work with Kansas City Chapter No. 28 and Kansas City Council No. 45 to provide suitable refreshments for all conclaves.
          • Activities Committee to include York Rite Festivals
          • Publicity Committee  to include Ivanhoe News
  • These Standing Rules may be changed at any stated conclave, but must lie over until the next stated conclave for final action, which must be by a two-thirds vote of members present.
  • Provided the Commander has a Class B Commandery Uniform, Kansas City Commandery No. 10 shall provide the Commander:
    • Before his installation the following:
      • $300 to help defray the expenses of uniforming
        • On the completion of his term of service with the following:
          • A Past Commanders Jewel, and 
          • Past Commander shoulder bars
